You need to get it another dwarf hamster to live with. Then within a few months it will eat it for dinner. That makes them really happy.
Some signs of a healthy dwarf hamster is if they eat lots of food and have a nice, healthy, shining coat. (Any healthy rodent will most likely have a shiny coat) Signs of happiness are he/she doesn't bite every time you try to hold it and if you know it well I will show affection by cuddling by your neck and stuff.
they're not dead
they eat a lot of food, are very active, have a nice shiny and full coat, and they should sleep only during the day and be up a lot of the night and morning, running around in their wheel or playing with any other toys you gave them.
Here are signs of a happy hamster:
eats a normal diet, drinks water but not to much in one day ( unless pregnant or is nursing), likes to play with owner, eats food out of your hand, sleeps, does not get stressed out easily
signs of a mad hamster:
attacks the cage when you come near it, opens its mouth as if to bite you when you open the cage, does not eat normally, drinks some, doesn't like to be held, or seems possesed
