The above hamster owners are all right on! But here's some extra...
In regard to the cage, I highly recommend that your cage be ESCAPE-PROOF and be made of wire with a plastic bottom, and not an aquarium type (not enough ventilation!).
I would recommend the Care Fresh bedding (recycled paper type), as many woods contain irritating dust (saw dust, if you will), and many types of woods have aromatics that have been linked to health problems in animals (cedar and pine most notably).
The wheel and exercise balls are great ideas. The chewsticks (and cardboard) to chew on are always nice.
You should NOT feed your hamster the seed mix they sell at most petstores (including Petsmart). This stuff is nothing but low-vitamin, high-calorie garbage! You should leave a pelleted diet (such as rodent blocks) in the cage and offer fresh vegetables twice a day, as well as the occasional fruit, seed, or grain product (such as Cheerios or whole wheat bread) as a treat. If you feed you hamster nothing but that seed food, you will end up with a horribly obese hamster, and possibly shave months off their short little life!
Another point, don't bother with vitamins in the water. We know that most water-soluble vitamins (such as vitamin C and B's) breakdown rapidly with time and light exposure, and usually contain too much vitamin A. I have also seen bacterial contamination caused by vitamin drops in dirty water bottles. Stick with the veggies!

u need chew sticks, bedding, a ball that it can roll around in, and oatmeal and veggies. all the supplies u need can be found in PETSMART =]
get a wheel..and i agree all of this can be found at petsmart :)
You should get a ball. My hamster loves his ball, he'd run for hours if I let him. Pick up one of the books that they have at petsmart. They are great information for what he/she'll need that you might not even think of but the most important thing that you'll need is time, you have to change the cage at least once a week and change the food and water every day not to mention time for you to play with him. Good Luck. I love my little man but he is a lot more work than I thought he'd be. :)
you need bedding exirsize wheel and you can get it all at petland if you really need to know get a book or buy one hope this helps oh and if your hamster is very small take it to the vet cause my hamster died it was very small :(
for a hamster, you should have a wheel, definitely, preferably a solid one, it's safer and better for their feet, and a ball, a food bowl, food, chew sticks, treats, toys.. and a lotta love. a camera would be helpful, too!
well. they like to chew so u should get something for them to chew on, they also like a place to get away fom people so i suggest havin a den sorta thing for the cage, u should have some hamster treats, (my hamsters like sunflower seeds best)and u should get an exersize ball, and take them out of their cage at least once a day, ( try and do that near the end the day, theyre partcially nocturnal).

You are definitely going to need more than a water bottle and a cage for a hamster.
they are bigger responsiblities than you think.
You need a nice and safe cage (make sure the cage has a wheel in so the hamster can exercize! It is very important!),water bottle,a nutritional food,a soft bedding, wood chews for hamster, and maybe some toys,or if it is a regular cage try a little bed (I have a hamster igloo in my hamster's cage.)It also needs love, care, and attention! If you planning on getting a hamster then make sure you get it from a experianced breeder, make sure the hamster is healthy (not wet in butt area, eyes are bright, not skinny/overweight,or anything wrong that you can see.)Good luck and god bless.
I know you will probably have some of the stuff but i will list everything you possibly need! You need a cage, water bottle, food dish, food, treats, toys, chew sticks, bedding CAREFRESH IS THE BEST PLZ USE IT CEDAR AND PINE SHAVINGS ARE VERY DANGEROUS FOR YOUR HAMSTER AND CAN KILL YOUR HAMSTER SO PLZ PLZ USE CAREFRESH, toilet paper card board stuff, toilet paper tissue unscented, I think that is about it if you have any hamster questions PLZ E-MAIL ME!!!
