Wet tail disease?

I took my hamster out from his lazy lookout today, and his whole bottom was wet. he was kinda just sitting there in his lookout when i picked him up. did i pick him up while he was peeing on accident, or does he have wet tail? he loves lettuce and i never give him a lot, but people are telling me a whole lot of lettuce can cause wet tail. and today i gave him a lot because we just found him after he escaped. he didn't eat it all when i gave it to him, he only ate half of it, which is the normal amount he gets. i just wanted to make sure he is alright. don't think he has it, but i can't be too sure.

OMG i hope he gets better.
It might not be wet tail, but most likely is if hes lathargic and has diarrhea.
Its very important to take your hamster to the vet ASAP, or else there is not much of a chance of him surviving.
If you cannot take your hamster to the vet, make sure to
keep your hamster in a warm, dry cage with good ventilation. Clean the cage more often. Dehydration is likely cause your hamsters death, so feed it lots of warm fluids. You can try feeding it through a syringe without a needle or a juicebox straw if he doesn't drink from a bowl or water bottle.
Go to the grocery store and buy unflavoured pedialite, which can be fed to your hamster as an emergency rehydration fluid. Also, remove food for the first 24 hours.
Dri tail has also helped many hamsters to recover from wet tail if you cant afford a vet. You can buy this at a pet store.
Since stress causes wet tail, as well as many other hamster diseases, lots of vitamin B can help you avoid this in the future. One way to give your hamster lots of vitamin B is to feed your hamster yeast. Feeding your hamster nutritional yeast or half a plain yeast pill weekly can help. Avoid feeding bakers yeast, because it has a bitter taste to hamsters. A pinch of nutritional yeast (which you can find in most health food stores) or half a plain yeast pill (yeast pills are found in pet stores in the cat and dog section)
Good Luck and I really hope your hamster gets better!

sounnds like wet tail which is fatal and for which there isnt a cure
I stopped giving my pet rodents lettuce after to many fatalities- I think you just can't wash all the rat poison off that they use when growing the stuff. Hopefully, your hamster just has a case of diarrhea and will get better.
it could be wet tail, so get him to a vet. Good job on posting it so soon; there is a cure if it is caught soon enough!
Ask a vet if this applies to hamsters, but lettuce gives rabbits diarrhea and kills them fast. They`re NEVER supposed to have ANY lettuce! I`ve got 2 rabbits-one is 10 and one is 8. Everyone I know who had rabbits said they died after 6 mos or a year and that they fed them lettuce.
There is a cure for wet tail. Get him to the vet for a simple course of antibiotics. That stuff they sell in the petstore for wet tail doesn't work, so don't waste your money there.
And lettuce DOES NOT kill rabbits. You don't want to feed the iceberg type, because it's mostly water, but romaine and the dark-leaf varrieties are fine. Moderation and variety are the key, as usual. If the above poster's rabbits died it wasn't because they ate lettuce.
vet...hurry so he doesn't get worse...even if it isn't wet tail better safe then sryy.
it is prbolly wet tail so bring ur hammy to the vet A.S.A.P!

hope i helped!
You can go to the pet store and buy something called Dri-Tail. This may help clear it up or give you an extra day. Immediately stop all feeding of fresh fruits and vegetables. Give him little bits of very dry toast and call teh vet. If you catch wet tail in time, it can be cured by a course of antibiotics.
If he is lethargic and having diarrhea (his poops will be much lighter in color) it is probably wet tail. And, someone had said to give Pedialyte; make sure you only give him like an eighth of a teaspoon, like a few drops, and only three times a day.
my hamster got wet tail i was soooo scared she was going to die so i called petco and they told me to give her lots of love and cabbage yes cabbage the vet is like $159 when cabbage is $1.59
