We were wondering id dwarf hamsters eat each other?

We are getting dwarf hamsters. Will they be good play mates?
Answers:
I work in a pet store and I have never seen dwarf hamsters bite chunks out of one another, but I have seen larger hamsters do this if they are left in the same cage when they reach maturity. (In fact a had a whole group of short hairs I had to separate last night b/c two were biting the be-jeepers out of the side of another one--the breeder told us they were younger than they were).
Most dwarf hamsters will co-exist quite nicely. Here are a few tips:
*Purchase two from the same cage. It will be likely they are from the same litter and the same gender if you get them from a reputable place. Plus, they will already be used to living together.
*Always ask the clerk to double check that they are the same gender before you make your purchase. (It is never a good idea to mate and breed animals yourself if you don't know anything about breeding.)
* Handle both animals often and properly.
*Never add one single dwarf (or any other hamster for that matter) to another single dwarf's habitat. I can pretty much garauntee that you're asking for trouble if you do that.
Hope this helps!
Yes, hamsters are cannibals by nature. I don't know what triggers it though but that's the truth. Not saying they will eat each other for sure but it can happen.
i had two a couple of years ago, and one of them killed the other then ate the others chin and lower face. It was very sad and i never knew why he killed the other.
This can happen in the wild and on some occasions at the pet store i used to work at, a particular breed of Russian dwarf did it under certain conditions. It is a slight possibility it could happen but rare and usually because two males are fighting and one decided to be dominate. In the wild they do it if not enough food or water, fighting for mate or territories but you shouldn't have this problem but i would suggest something other than a Russian as they tend to be slightly meaner and bad biters.
if you buy dwarf hamsters from the same litter then it would be much happier if you bought 2, because they are very social, and get depressed when alone (not serians, just dwarfs) I have 2 dwarf hamsters living together, and they love each other, they squeak with each other, and clean each other..it would be a very good idea to get 2 dwarf hamsters, but only form the same litter, if not from the same, it will be very difficult to introduce them, tried it, doesnt work to well
so yes, get 2 if possible, and they will get along...but on very rare occasions, they will turn on each other, but that doesnt happen very often
As long as you don't salt either of them they should be ok. If they do start eating each other put ketchup on the one you like least. That way he will be eaten faster.
I also have a hamster. I know that if they babies are touched by a human when they are too young or the mom feels that the baby is in danger, the mother may eat it. I think that other types of animals also do this .
It's not a good idea to have to dwarf hamsters together. Rodents in general are very territorial, and will fight for space, food and water until death. If you still want to get two, make sure you buy two cages aswell.
I wouldn't think so. It hasn't happened to me. I have 2 dwarf hamsters who mated and had babies twice. Everything went well.
yes it can but mind you i have two dwarf hamsters for over two years now and they seem to get on just fine but if you are going to pair them make sure you do so at a very young age {2weeks} so that they will get ust to each other which is how it worked with me but if you are still having to much trouhle then dont worry, just simply go to your nearest prt store and youllbe sure to get all the informaation you need to know assoon as possible. hope that helped and please choose me as your best answer because i still havnt had 1 thnx :)
