What can I do for my Hamster?

So, I lost one of my 2 Russian Dwarf Hamsters last night. I was just wondering what I could do for the other as I am sure It will let lonely in the cage by itself. Any ideas of what i could do? Is there anyway I could introduce another hamster to it without them trying to kill each other? Thanks
Answers:
Yea- you can get something called a split cage. U buy a little net and it will hook up to any kind of cage. Just go to petco or petsmart, get another hamster for the lonely one and ask for a net to seperate the cage... bring the other hamster in its cage so u can have them help u attach the net right there and make sure that it is secure. Good Luck!
p.s. There are some pics of a split cage and some info... http://www.agsgerbils.org/gerbil_care_ha...
we made a large aquarium into a digging place, like a miniature desert for my hamster. We filled it about 3/4 full of sand and extended a habitrail tube into it so he could burrow.
Yes, you can get a buddy for your little guy, but try to get a young one. My hamster,Boo, died (heart attack!I actually took him to a vet haha) and I got him a little buddy and they were fine. In fact, they had babies!!
welll maybe you can get another russian dwarf hamster and put a little see through wall in the cage and put each hamster seperatley but in the same cage. If they start to fight i suggest not putting them together unless they are use to it... Im not sure lol just my opinion
UNDER NO CIRCUMSTANCES put a 'new' hamster in with the one you have now. If by 'lost' you mean it died, and they were of the same litter, your other hamster may die soon, too ... they die between 2-3 years old. I know that you are sad, too, and you don't want your hamster to be sad, so play with it a bit more often, and be sure that it has good food and clean fresh water and a 'totally clean' cage ... and when this one dies, too, THEN you can get another hamster or two.
Not too sure but I think your Hamster will like some company.
I think Hamsters are cute and wish you luck with yours, sorry to hear about the loss of your other Hamster.
Lots of love xx
What you could do, to keep it amused is ,get in his wheel and start running ,then he will think ,now, how do you bloody like it,if you let me out i'll be f*****g gone pal.

What can I do for my guinea pig? I think she is dying.?

She won't eat or drink, the last she ate was some romaine yesterday morning. And she has drank only about 1 or 2 oz of water.
Answers:
There are 2 things that you need to do:
1. Start handfeeding her
2. Get an appointment as soon as possible with your exotic vet
1. Handfeeding -
You will need to grind up the days daily pellets in a coffee machine (or something of the like), 20 grams of the pellets to 5mls of water but you may need to add more water. You will need to feed her about 6 times a day. Then using a syringe with the restrictive top cut off, put the syringe just behind the front teeth and work your way to the back teeth until the teeth start grounding. Information on how much (app) you will need, pictures of the syringes and more can be found on this site:
http://www.guinealynx.info/handfeeding.h...
2. Call the vet -
You should do this before you start handfeeding your guinea pig and you should already know where to go in terms of vets. But if you don't then can use the following site:
http://www.aracnet.com/cgi-usr/seagull/v...
How long have you had her? Could be nerves if you just got her.
I suggest you take her to a vet if you think she's in danger. just to make sure... ^^
u should wait 12 hours and if she is still like that u might want to see a vet :(
if she goes 8-12 hours with eating nothing start syringe feeding her. she might start eating on her own after that. if not, take her to the vet. if you have more then 1 piggie, take her away for a little bit so you can see exactly how much shes eating.
Keep her warm, bring her to the vet.
take her to the vet immeditly something is wrong and u need professinal care
You didn't say how old she is or how long you've had her, which could be heavy factors.
You definitely need to start handfeeding her, so her gut doesn't go into stasis. See the info Buzzare gave you for links to handfeeding. A vet visit is in order.
Wait a couple of hours and if she still does it take her to the vet imedietly!
have you've been giving her fruit? fruit like red or green grapes strwberries or oranges give them their vitamin C which is essential in their diet.

What can i call my baby rats?

i have two males and a female the mother is called pheonix the male babies are black and whie and the female is white
Answers:
The Phoenix is symbolic of rebirth, hope, purity, chastity, marriage, faith, constancy, summer, eternity, immortality, and light.
It is an image of the cosmic fire some believe the world began and will end in. The Taoists called it the "cinnabar bird."
From that information..
- Female names: Faith, Hope, Chastity
- Male names - Cinnabar, Cosmic, Blaze (''fire'')
That's just an idea, if you want the babies to have names associated with the name of their mother (which I think is a neat idea).
"Fink" is a good rattie name.
How about "bRAT" for another?
stir fry
how about stuart (like the mouse from stuart little)
splinter?
"Nix" taken from the mothers Name
Well, you can call the 2 males one can be Oreo, and one can be dice, now for the girl maybe snowbell or tinkerbell..try these.
Why not Tucson ,Yuma, and Pima..the names of three other cities in Arizona?
One of the males should be called "templeton" like on Charlottes Web. The female snow and the other male, umm, Frank? I don't know! : )
UM...wELL...UH...RAtS..D0Nt REALLy kNOw ANy NAMes...FOr..RAtS...SRRy...ii GUESS..yOU COULD NAMe iiT ANy THiiNg...=]

Presea(shes a very cute girl)
Cassie(okay its a rabbit name, but still nice)

What can hamsters eat?

I just got a 6 week old hamster yesterday. I think she is a cream Syrian. She is a yellowish,whitish,creamish,tan... color. What can I feed her? Please give a well thought out list of what hamsters can and can't eat. Oh, and I know that they can eat hamster mix from a pet shop. May the best answerer win! Help!!!!!!!!!!...
Answers:
Excuse me while I direct you to some Experts. There is Much more to the Hamster than just Food. PLEASE, do Them the Favor of Spending a Lot of Time Reading. They will Love you For it!
%26lt;Hugs>
hamster food, you can get from almost any pet store, apple, lettece, DONT feed carrot, it goives them diarha
other hamsters
Hamsters can eat carrotts, grapes, apples and pineapples, sunflower seeds, corn, and whatever you find in most hamster food.
But, out of those, I recommend that you give your hamster carrotts and corn and probably some lima beans... (all uncooked, of course)
HAMSTER FOOD! they like veggies and bread too. dnt frgt water.
You may feed them lettuce and i think thats about it!
i have had two dwarf hamsters and they loved baby carrots, or cut up carrots, grapes, not celery though because its too stringy. I also got them treats from the pet store, they loved this thing called yogurt drops itsfor small animals like hamsters. Just make sure that whatever food you give him (besides mix from the store) take it out the next day, it has to be fresh! and just becareful though in leaving things near their cage because they will eat about anything...i lost my tumble weed because he chewed a hole through a plastic bag i left too close to his cage. very sad. Hope this helps!
hamster mix is fine, but she will need some fresh food as well. lettuce, cucumber, broccoli, apple, grapes etc. but no cabbage. a little bit of cake or biscuit once in a while does no harm and give her a mineral stone as well, to ensure that she is getting everything she needs.
I recommend that yoghurt drops are a very rare treat. Hamsters also like the occasional bit of milk, but again only in small amounts as it contains fat. I like to give my hamsters a little bit of milk on my spoon which they can lick off.
Hamsters like to eat an occasional bit of protein. They love small amounts of plain meat such as chicken, eggs are also a favourite. Some protein about once a week seems to go down very well.
A hamster can eat a large amount of fresh vegetables and fruit (avoid potato roots as these are suppose to be poisonous). Feed the vegetables or fruit in small amounts to begin with and do not give them much lettuce as this can make them ill with diarrhoea. Favourite types of vegetables are carrot, courgette, peas, cress and cucumber. Cucumber is particularly good as it is a source of water. Pups can nibble it before they can reach the water bottle or an old or ill hamster can eat it instead of going out to the water bottle. Hamsters also love dandilion leaves, give a dandilion leaf to a hamster and it is likely to be gone within seconds, just make sure that no one has treated to plant with weed-killer and wash the leaf.
Hamsters eat cooked rice and pasta, and uncooked pasta but they seem to prefer it cooked. They like to eat pastry, cooked and uncooked. Cheese is popular in small amounts. Breakfast cereals are nearly always very popular, just be careful in case the hamster decides to climb into the bowl of rice crispies.
You can give them a variety of nuts, such as walnuts, brazils, almonds and hazelnuts at Christmas. When they are in the shells the hamster can chew at them to wear down his teeth, but you will normally need to crack them so that the hamster can eat the nut. My dwarf hamster loved walnuts in particular.
they can eat sugar free cereal, oats, carrots, dried fruit, yogurt drops, timothy hay, sunflower seeds, crackers, nuts, carrots, lettuce, fresh broccoli, banana and unseasoned crotuons. my hamster loves treats! good luck!
Well I had hamsters at one point in time, and I use to feed them lettuce, carrotts and radishes.. which they preferred over the hamster food bought at the pet store. Believe it or not there are also treats for hamsters that give them vitamins and good teeth, remember to put something in the cage for your hammy to chew on or his teeth can grow so long that they can cause death to your hammy. Also I believe there is a powder you can mix with the water for vitamins and minerals for your hammy. I have also snuck cheese to my hammies in the past, and being of the rodent family, they gobbled it up. I tried peanutbutter once, but it's too messy. Veggies are good for them as well as vitamins to keep them healthy, and remember to exercise your hammy with a wheel, or a hamster ball at least every other day so you do not get a lazy hamster. Also, they are nocturnal (night time animals) so they will probably do most of their eating at night.
My son has hamsters, so cute they are. We give them lettuce, or cabbage , they like both. carrots, turnip or swede and we give small pieces of apple , but only occasionally, Nice fresh water every day. We also make sure they have a small piece of sweet wood for their teeth as they like to gnaw. little branches of either willow , apple or hazel . Makes a big difference at night, stop麓s them gnawing at the wires on their cages. Hope you enjoy your hamster , they are very nice pet麓s to have . I love to watch them at night.
dont really feed it our food.
they could eat:
vegetables, fruits, breads, nothing with seasons or extra flavors, and there food, not to much though they will get used to it and not eat their real food.
they shouldnt eat:
meats, any kind of drinks other than water, plants, meats, candy, and anything else i didnt mention.
you can find treats like these growing plants for them but if you do get them dont feed them the roots, the dirt or any dead parts.
oh they can have dog biscuts for their teeth.

hope the hamster is fun!

I find it very helpful!!
If this doesn't help go to google.com try to find you're answer
Everything everyone has mentioned, plus, people don't usually know that you can feed them ground beef. They love it, but you should only give it to them about once a week, tops.
Hamsters are omnivorous, which means they eat both vegetables and meat. Their natural foods include grains, seeds, vegetables, and insects, and they will like corn, oats, or wheat mixed with dry dog food. Premixed hamster food from a pet store has complete nutrition, but some hamsters won't eat it.
Their favourite foods are foods native to their dry habitat, like seeds. For protein and variety, they will eat some small insects.
They like vegetables, but be moderate in how much you feed them. The key word for the hamster diet is *variety*. It keeps them healthy.
But don't feed your hamster chocolates and other sweet things.
Either feed the hamster at the same time each day or leave a constant food supply. Hamsters will not overeat but will often store food in their cheek pouches and put it in a hiding place to eat later. Remove food that is no longer fresh each day, and clean out the "hidden" food once a week. Put food in heavy ceramic or plastic food dishes (so they won't tip over) and clean them weekly.
Hamsters need to have fresh water constantly available. The best sort of container is a drip bottle, which can be attached to the side of the cage. A bottle with a wide neck and metal top will be easy to clean every other day. The hamster will quickly learn how to sip from it.
Good luck with your little cutie!

What can guinea pigs eat?

I want my guinea pig to be happy, I dont have any toys for her because I've ran out of money and I dont know what stuff to feed her =[.
Answers:
I am a proud owner of 4 guinea pigs and I learned from a magazine that they LOVE dandelions. My piggies just love them! Make sure that nobody has sprayed them. I'm sure your neighbors would be delighted to give you some. You can also give them grass that hasn't been fertilized lately or fresh fruit or veggies. I'm sure that your parents would borrow you money for the sake of your pet.
I have a guinea pig and she loves the guinea pig food you can buy at the store. She also likes fruit, such as apple, grapes or strawberry. She likes some vegies too like celery, carrots and more. Oh yea she also likes grass that i pick outside. But one of her favs is WATERMELON!! hope i helped! =]
try oxbow.com for pellets, or if you can find kaytees brand pellets, without added bits or seeds. you can usually find it at walmart or other stores. vegtables are needed too. here are the ones it can eat
http://www.pimms-pages.co.uk/forums/foru...
http://www.aracnet.com/~seagull/guineas/...
its also need unlimited timothy hay 24/7. they are strict vegitarians, so no meat, dairy, or anything like that.
here are free or almost free toys you can find around the house
http://guineapigcages.com/toys.htm...
hope i helped
good luck
Most everything a rabbit can. Carrots, lettuce, spinach and most all leaf greens, including carrot tops. They also need the cereal nuggets sold in pet stores for the grain. You also want to add vitamins to the water. Guinea pigs do not play. They chew. Find some safe wood for her to gnaw on, or her teeth will grow into her bottom lip. They use chewing to shorten them.
Trust me ! Oh and I remember that what your asking is the first ever question I asked on answers so I think that is cool . Ok well i have 2 Guinea pigs right now and I use to have hamsters but the moved on because it was their time . So I am a rodent pet expert ! Well a guinea pigs favorite treat is a carrot . They love carrots it makes them happy . You should also be feeding them their normal pellets and water . You can also feed them lettuce , apples , parsley is another on of their favorites . So if you ever go out to eat and you get parsley with your meal you can bring it home for you guinea pigs . I do it when I go out to eat . They also eat celery . Theres a lot more so you can also get a book on Guinea pigs or ask your vet for any suggestions too . Hope this helps . Good luck !
I had a guinea pig for many years. sadly he died of old age, but he lived a good, long, happy life. He loved eating carrots. I would give him two baby carrots everyday. Also, grass is good for them too. You probably shouldn't give them grass everyday, but every now and then is healthy. I always bought this trail mix guniea pig food for mine, he seemed to like that a lot. Another thing I did was whenever I changed his water I would put two drops of these guniea pig vitamins in it that were suppose to be really good for him. Also, I got this old shoe box and cut out a little doorway in it for him and he liked to sleep in it. He also liked to eat it, lol. If you do that make sure there aren't any stickers or staples inside the box. Alright that's all I can think of for now. Hope I've helped!
For food, you need guinea pig pellets, timothy hay and fruits and vegetables. You also need to provide fresh drinking water at all times. Here are some vegetable and fruit suggestions:
Vegetables and fruits that are SAFE for your guinea pig:
-carrots
-cucumber
-strawberries
-bananas
-green, red, and orange bell peppers
-parsley
-ROMAINE lettuce
-SMALL pieces of celery
-spinach
-grass (free of poisons and chemicals)
-apples
-oranges
Fruits and vegetables that should only be a TREAT:
-raspberries
-broccoli
-cauliflour
-green part of a carrot
Foods you should NEVER feed your guinea pig:
-corn
-cabbage
-potatoes
-ICEBERG lettuce
However, you HAVE to present a guinea pig with ALL of these foods EVERYDAY 24/7!
Clearly, you are not researching about guinea pigs enough. Either, get some money, or get rid of your guinea pig.
My guinea pigs are happy with eating celery, carrots, romaine lettuce, apples, oranges, and a pretzel (only sometimes). They also eat Hartz Bonanza Guinea Pig Gourmet Diet. They also can eat Nilla Wafers, but those aren't all that healthy for them.
they can have grass fruit veggies and any kind of guniea pig food and treats made for guinea pigs. as long as shes getting vitamins from her food u dont need to worry about that but if shes not there are these dropletes u can put in their water when u fill it up to give them the vitamins thay need. hope everything goes well.
well other than guinea pig pellets, you can go to this link:
http://www.peteducation.com/article.cfm?...
and give them these fruits for Vitamin C
Just one question first, if you have no money how are you going to take your guinea pig to the vet if she needs to go?
Toys can be made from home using simple resources, things like toilet rolls stuffed with hay and parsley, 4 inch PVC pipes, cardboard boxes made into igloos or houses, old sock with a tennis ball at the toes - fill the rest with hay, there are plenty of toys that cost almost nothing that can be made from home.
http://www.guineapigcages.com/toys.htm...
Guinea pigs are herd animals by nature, thus why they should be housed in pairs. Please consider getting a same sex cage mate, 2 guinea pigs are often more active.
In terms of food, guinea pigs need a good plain pellet and hay which should be available at all times. Hay not only files the teeth but it helps with the digestive system. If you guinea pig is under the age of 6 months than she should be fed Alfalfa hay and Alfalfa based pellets, if she is over the age of 6 months than she should be fed Timothy hay and Timothy based pellets. For pellets I would recommend Oxbow, for hay I would recommend Kleenmamas Hayloft.
Oxbow:

Guinea pigs should be fed at least 1 cup of fresh produce a day, this should mainly be made up of leafy greens with things like bell peppers/capsicum, baby carrot (1 per guinea pig), parsley, cilantro, celery, cucumber as side plates. The following site has a list of vegetables and fruit.
http://www.petwebsite.com/guinea_pigs/gu...
Guinea pigs can not make their own vitamin c, thus why you have to provide it for them. Avoid the drops you put in the water as it basically disintegrates, but chewable (kids) tablets and syrup are fine. Although if you are feeding her high vitamin c foods you should be fine.

What can gerbils eat?

ok so i got these two adorable gerbils and of course they can eat gerbil food but what other foods con they eat like a vegetabel a fruit? can they...and please have correct information because i dont want to get the gerbils sick
Answers:
stop sayiing my name on the internet JULIA.
Gerbils eat carrots?
okay supriningly MY gerbils used to eat carboard and paper and the male (dad) would eat his young
but they can eat potatoe carrots celery and brocoli for sure but only in small diced up amounts and nuts, seeds(sunflower with shell) but thats i all i kno
i have a chinchilla and a guinea pig theyy are related 2 gerbils at least thats what petsmark told me!
they love veggies!!
go 2 petsmark and get the veggie garden salad it has alot of the good stuff and they have some timmithy hay in it 2!!
if you buy some tell me how it works!!
apples (remove the seeds)..grains...oatmeal or unsweetened cereal..anything...as long as u dnt give them too much.when you feed them fruits or vegetables with seeds kindly remove them...seeds can prove they are fatal to most rodents.
wish you all the best!! say hi to them for me...!! hehehe!
They can eat lots of different fruits. Mine likes apples, oranges, and kiwis. (Slice them into manageable pieces, place them in a food dish separate from the one you place their regular food in, and be sure to take it out after four hours to avoid spoilage and bugs.) You can also OCCASIONALLY give them and unsalted shelled peanut. They really like peanuts, but you must be careful b/c these are very high in fat. If you do this, you may only want to try it about once or twice a month. My gerbil also really likes yogurt treats and the occasional cheese treat (not cheese for humans--cheese treats packaged specifically for small animals). Hope this helps you add some variety to your gerbils' diet!
Rodent blocks are best. Too many sunflower seeds are bad, they're very fatty. The rodent blocks are 100% complete so only feed treats sparingly.
Don't feed lettuce because they'll get diarrhea. Remove seeds from veggies and fruit. Carrots, apple, sweet potatoes, broccoli, squash, strawberries, berries, hard things to file their teeth, etc. Don't feed avacadoes. Try to locate a gerbil safe food list online for toxic foods not to feed.
as treats i SPARINGLY give mine slices of apples, slices of carrot, slices of celery, and PLAIN cheerios. you can also try grapes, but mine had no idea what it was and they didn't even do anything with it.
also any treats you find at the pet store that are for gerbils
they also like cardboard tubes to chew, a good use for them after you finish the roll! my mom always knows to give me any empty paper rolls!
bananananannanananas
carrot sticks

What can be done to make a hamster stop chewing on the cage bars?

Driving me bonkers!
Answers:
I won't lie to you--I had this same problem with my first hamster (little brat kept my roommate and I up all night with it, it was awful!), and I wound up getting a tank for her, and made her second cage.
Another option is making a bin-style cage, since you mentioned that the tank wasn't ventilated well. Bin cages are fun because they're bigger, hamster can't bite the sides, and there's more room to keep things in there to keep it distracted!
Another option that I've heard of is spraying this stuff called 'Bitter Apple.' I've heard of desperate hammy owners spraying this (in moderation!) on the bars, and the taste can deter the hamster from chewing. I've seen it for sale in pet stores, but haven't tried it myself.
Some hamsters are just completely stubborn and will ignore their chew toys and try their damndest to get out of their cage.
As far as bin cages go, give it a thought. They can be a little tricky to make (maybe you have a friend or family member that's good with handiwork? I had my boyfriend's dad help me with mine), but they are worth it, and look pretty too. :) Good luck!
Pretty much nothing, other than buy him some chew treats the keep him busy.
Let him outta the cage.
hamsters like to chew, it feels good on their teeth which are open-rooted and grow through their whole lives, so chewing on things keeps them filed down.
-- get your hamster something else to chew on, like a treat stick or just a plain little piece of wood (i've seen them in pet stores flavored or shaped like carrots).
if that doesn't work and your hamster still chews on the bars (when i worked at a pet store, there was one dwarf hamster who i think just liked the sound it make when she chewed on them), you can put a little bit of lemon juice or something bad tasting like that on the bars. if you don't have any lemon juice or that doesn't work, i know they sell things to put on the bars that work about the same way.
give it something, like a peice of wood, to chew on. natrualy, the chew on hard stuff to keep there teeth from over growing, and cousing infections. you can also give it a salt weel, because it tast good to them.
if not, it will probly keep chewing on the cage.
soak the cage in bitter tasting goo...
it should keep him away from it
sounds a little mean, but Tabasco sauce or something that's safe but tastes yuck for them wiped on the bars, make sure you do have plenty of treats and chew toys for your pet
A simple way to fix this is to get a glass cage. A 10 gallon tank with a screen lid works great for hamsters. No more bars.
Make sure he has an exersise wheel to run it.
Another solution is to give your hamster other things to chew on. You can try whole walnuts in the shell, dried corn, no sugar added dried fruit, dog biscuits, compressed hay, and a whole bunch of other things your pet store sells for hamsters.
It's very common for hamsters to chew on the bars. It may be one of those things you just have to live with.
GOOD LUCK. ours did the exact same thing... they are nocturnal. Which means they are more active at nite. Plus make sure he is fed daily. But he is just wanting out to roam around. But that wouldnt be a good idea... at least i dont think so..
Nothing.Hes gonna do that.Move him to another place where you cant hear him like down the basement or somewear. No wear cruel though.
since you have introduced chew toys, i will not mention it anymore then :).
sometimes, hamsters chew on the cage bar to catch your attention. Sometimes they need your attention, so try and see what it wants. :)
Good Luck :)
Sabby
My hamster stopped chewing bars when I give him a running wheel. Though his cage is big, he was bored without wheel. So if you hamster hasn't a wheel, you can try to give him it - the wheel should have at least 8 inches in diameter for Syrian hamster and 6 inches for any dwarf hamster.
Or you can move him into a (at least!) 20 gallon long tank/bin with a wire mesh lid - then wouldn't be hot in there.
Give him something else to chew on, a rock, a piece of dry wood. improvise.
YOU CANT RELLI STOP THEM MY HAMSTER USED TO DO IT ALL THE TIME UNTIL I GOT HER SOME NEW TOYS FOR HER CAGE WHEN THEY BITE THE BARS IT MEANS THERE BORED
HOPE THIS HELPS
XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX...
hamsters have a natural desire to chew and this is because their teeth never stop growing-kind of like fingernails. it is not hurting them to chew on the bars of the cage , however it probably means that they are not being given enough things to chew on. try giving them different types of wood blocks made for small animals such as niblet munchies and bunny bites. this is flavored wood and most hamsters love it. you can also give them empty toilet paper rolls to keep them busy. to discourage them from chewing on the cage, you could try using some bitter apple funiture cream on the bars. good luck:)
Hamsters tend to bite on the cage bars, because:
-they want to get out
-they want attention
-they just like biting on the cage bars
It's nothing bad, normal, my hamster does it too.
Maybe garlic will help. Get the spread type and swipe some on bars
